International Service

Dear Fellow Rotarian,
The District International Committee wish you a happy
and rewarding Rotary Year 2007-8.

“Remember yesterday but think about today and tomorrow”

Items to view: 2007-8 District International Committee, , Newsletter, Shelter Box Update, Life Box Update, United Nations News Digest, Disaster Appeals, The Rotary of Middleton Water Projects
The above items may be viewed by following the link and all will be updated on a regular basis as needed.

Cyclone Nargis, Myanmar and China earthquake (See the latest reports on the left 11th June)
200 ShelterBoxes have been earmarked for China and the charity has been formally asked to help in the affected areas.   In spite of the rising death toll foreign nationals have not been allowed into Myanmar to help with relief work.  Flights given permission to land must be unloaded by the Myanmar armed forces.  However, ShelterBox has been granted visas for 4 Response Team Members and they are training the Government personnel who will take the Boxes to the Irrawaddy delta area.  1648 ShelterBoxes have been identified for Myanmar.  Rotary has played a significant part in the disaster relief but why is there no mention of Rotary in the press?

Can your Rotary Club help?
Funds are urgently needed to replenish the stocks of all the Box Organisations and to help pay for the cost of cargo space on flights to China and Myanmar.  Aquabox ask that Rotary clubs return all Aquaboxes as a matter of urgency so that they may be shipped to either China or Myanmar.

IMPACT
Following the completion of the Matching Grant the ‘Magic Train’ is now back on the tracks.  To celebrate the occasion the Director of Postal Services in India released a special cover.  IMPACT is now in the Guinness book of records for the most cataracts done in a single project: 60006 (and by top surgeons) and BBC is making a film to be shown on BBC4.Beacon Prize for Family Philanthropy 2007.

The winner of this year’s award was the Rotary Club of Bolton Daybreak.  To see what they did please click here.  The Rotary Clubs of Hindley and Ramsbottom also produced entries.

All change
This is the last time I will be editing this page as Rtn. Stuart Martin (RC of Ramsbottom) takes over from July 1st and I know he will find the role as satisfying as I have done.  Please accept my thanks for giving me the opportunity to be your District International Chairman.

Dates for your diary:
Thursday 19th February 2009, International Rally and Project Fair at Buile Hill
