District 128 has thirty-four Clubs
with approximately seven hundred and twenty members;
our District covers the Isle of Man with parts of
Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside
and West Yorkshire. Clubs usually meet once
a month, have a business meeting and then perhaps
arrange for a speaker to attend. Organised social
events and outings are also in the programme.
Some
clubs also have social events specifically for single
members. Our district is one of 29 District’s
within Great Britain and Ireland. The Governing
Body comprises one representative from each District
and an Executive committee, headed by a President. Each
year a conference is held which every member of Inner
Wheel may attend.
At the AGM and Conference
Sessions topical issues are keenly debated. These
Conferences encourage friendship links and provide
great enthusiasm and enjoyment for the members who
attend. Inner Wheel Clubs throughout the world
are members of International Inner Wheel. A
triennial Convention is held in various countries
enabling members from the Association to meet those
from overseas.
Members of Inner Wheel work tirelessly for those
in need, not only at home but overseas too. They
are always on hand to offerpractical and financial
help in times of natural and man-made disasters.
This year, District Chairman Sheila has selected
the Anthony Nolan Trust as her chosen charity. Simply
speaking, the charity takes back lives from leukaemia
by transplanting either bone marrow or more recently
peripheral blood stem cells from healthy donors to
leukaemia patients.
During the last year,
over £1½ million
was raised by our members nationally for both home
and overseas projects. By way of practical help ,
we also despatch goods to war-torn areas, and knit
and sew blankets and clothes. In addition at Christmas
toys and gifts go out to those in need all over the
world.
Practical help is offered to the sick, the young
and the elderly, the disadvantaged, the lonely and
the handicapped. Visits are made to the housebound, shopping
trips and outings organised to help the local community, and holding events such
as drama productions raises funds. Then there are visits to places of interest,
barbecues, countryside walks, concert and theatre trips.
The International Inner Wheel Theme for 2008/9 is “Realise
your Visions and Make a Difference” and
whilst supporting this theme, we enjoy a great deal
of Friendship and Fun |
