The advertised Peace Scholar James Griffen can no longer attend, so Peace Scholar Amanda Sutherland is replacing him.

Amanda Sutherland - Rotary Club of Dartmouth East, District 7820, Canada
Country of citizenship: Canada
Language proficiency: English and Spanish
Undergraduate degree: Bachelor of Applied Arts, Child and Youth Studies - Mount Saint Vincent University, Halifax, Canada

Rotary Center degree: Master of Arts, Peace Studies, Conflict Resolution or International Politics and Security Studies

Area of expertise: Children at risk | Most recent job position: Youth service navigator
Career plans: To improve the conditions of at risk children as a children's rights advocate

Amanda writes: Like Rotary International, I am dedicated and committed to improving the lives of children at risk worldwide. Over the last 6 years, I have volunteered my time working children in Australia, Zimbabwe, Romania, the West Bank, Bolivia, Thailand and Vietnam. While in Australia, I attended a World Reconciliation Day Concert where Nelson Mandela urged nations to reconcile their differences through tolerance, understanding and conflict resolution.
Despite the apparent difficulties in solving conflicts, the life of Nelson Mandela has shown that no matter how complicated the conflict may seem a resolution is always possible. I want to help children in post-conflict situations to rebuild their lives after being devastated by conflict and civil war. World peace is dependent on children growing up in a stable, healthy environment.
